An Easy, Powerful and Inexpensive Place to Start with Analytics

There are so many solutions in the market today claiming they can help you make more informed decisions with your organization’s data.  However, the ultimate benefit of these analytic technologies is not typically realized without fairly complex professional services and the assumption that there is also a general data and analytics foundation established at your organization, e.g., data models, data warehouse, data integration technologies, business intelligence SW, etc.

However, what if your organization wants to see what’s possible with analytics before making a large capital investment in infrastructure for a sophisticated data platform?   Data visualization technologies, such as Tableau, put the power of analytics in business user’s hands.  They provide a drag and drop dashboard interface that allows you to easily create intuitive visuals of data from almost any accessible information repository.  If your user community has experience with Excel, tools like Tableau will come naturally to them.

The great thing about starting with data visualization, is it opens user’s eyes to the power of data.  They will be able to do analysis of the data that they most likely have never done before.  Not only that, but the visualizations and dashboards that can be created in these solutions are amazing-see example.

Once the power of data is realized and you start to become a student of analytics, you will begin to understand the point at which you can’t go any further.  This limitation is usually a function of the health and/or breadth of an organization’s data environment.  At this point, you can start to think about what other supporting technologies would make your analytics more impactful, your data more reliable and richer…(a data warehouse, data integration technology, master data management, big data technologies, etc.).

Visualization technologies are a great starting point for working with analytics.  With licenses of solutions such as Tableau starting around $1,995, visualization is available to organizations of almost every size.  We have customers who have no capital budget for visualization, but because of the price of the solution the funds can usually be found, requested, or even put on a credit card.

To demonstrate first hand the power of data visualization, feel free to download a copy of Tableau from our trial site at this link.
